Amit Pieter and Pastor Odette Lockwood-Stewart hosted this special show on Martin Luther King Day. Our first guest is Rev. Dr. Susan Henry-Crowe, chief executive of the United Methodist Board of Church and Society, located on Capitol Hill. She spoke to us about “faith in the public square,” addressing the shocking events in Washington on 6 January, and the upcoming inauguration. Our second guest, Rev. Dr. Dorsey Odell Blake, serves at the progressive Pacific School of Religion and is Presiding Minister of The Church for The Fellowship of All Peoples. He spoke about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Black Lives Matter movement in a global context, particularly with reference to the events in Washington.

John Price and Jim Lockwood-Stewart hosted the show, providing an update on ACP online services and other programs. That includes Musings with the Maestro, a new series by Music Director Fred Graman on the history of ACP. Pastor Jim then talked about Advent, the “new year” in the church calendar, and explained how the yearly cycle plays out. John discussed the Bible Study series “Making Sense of the Bible” and announced the Thanksgiving service plans and Gratizoom, and the current Generosity campaign.

Amit Pieter hosted with ACP’s Contemporary Music Director Natalie Raynal, who answered the Question of Faith: During the pandemic, how do we find God’s strength in our weakness? Then, for My Story My Song, Natalie shared “I Will Not Give Up” by Devon Graves. Lisa Anselmo described the 55th Bloom Where You’re Planted seminar, happening online on 14 November, all virtual. We looked at upcoming ACP events online, and then finished with a prayer by Natalie for a safe and fair US election.

Alison Benney and ACP’s interim Associate Pastor, Doug Fondell co-hosted the show, and Pastor Doug opened with a Question of Faith: "Where is God in the midst of the struggle, pain, confusion, and loss that the world is facing?" Allison Wheeler, Director of Children’s Ministry, then talked about the challenges of child raising during the pandemic, and the special programs she created in response. Then Peter deWit, organiser of the Refugee Welcome Dinners, spoke about the life-changing experience of inviting refugees and asylum-seekers to share a dinner in one’s home. Then Tendayi Chirawu, head of the Paris Writers Group, wrapped it up by introducing “Through Walls” and anthology of creative writing by members of the American Church in Paris.

For our Question of Faith, Grant discusses what he’s learned during this year of internship at the ACP, both pre-pandemic and post-confinement, and what comes next. Rose Marie Burke describes the ongoing Bible Study series, A Major World from the Minor Prophets, explaining how a Bible Study can be rewarding on Zoom, and how it’s changed how she sees the Bible. Then we hear from John Price, on the work done by the Task Force on Regathering, on the challenges or re-opening the building, and how we are moving forward.

It was Martin Luther King Jr, Day, and we interviewed Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Lewis who discussed her upcoming Thurber lecture on 4th February, "Liberating God" as well as her activism to promote tolerance and love, and to establish multi-racial, multicultural congregations. Dan emphasised the importance of regular spiritual practice outside of Sunday church services, such as Bible study, for a more solid faith. John Price described the book, "Making Sense of the Bible" and the all-congregation study groups. And Teri Lee Valluy discussed her ongoing Bible study series, Focus on Forgiveness.

Carrie Bellanger, Pastor in Jerusalem, joins us via phone, to share her experience with the group of women led by Kim Herr on the pilgrimage from Paris to Chartres at the end of September. Kim Herr recounts her pilgrimage experience on the St. Jacques de Compostelle.

Host Ashleigh Searle Picq is joined in the studio by Rev. Dr Grace Ji-Sun Kim. Dr. Kim will be delivering a Thurber lecture at the American Church in Paris on 20 June entitled - Embracing the Other: The Transformative Spirit of Love. Dr. Kim is an Associate Professor of Theology at Earlham School of Religion and the author or editor of 12 books on a wide range of themes intercultural ministry, social justice, environmental issues and the church. ACP Associate Pastor, the Reverend Timothy Vance tackles a Question of Faith and explains where the Holy Spirit appears in the Bible and how the Spirit manifests itself. We also hear from Bob Stains, a trained conflict resolution coach and consultant, on how Reflective Structured Dialogue can help churches have tough conversations on difficult issues. Last, the team of volunteers with Vacation Bible School talks about the plans for this year’s August session entitled “Shipwrecked”.
